Masculinities, Violence and (Post-)Conflict
The Transitional Justice Institute (TJI), the International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE) and the Institute for Research in Social Sciences (IRISS) at Ulster University are hosting a one-day open postgraduate conference on 'Masculinities, Violence and (Post-) Conflict' on 14th January 2016 at Ulster University, Belfast Campus, running from 9.00 am to 6.15pm+ The conference brings together a wide variety of scholars and students working on the intersections between gender, masculinities, violence and (post-)conflict, and includes a diversity of papers. The event will offer academic presentations, peer discussion, networking opportunities and expert feedback in a supportive environment.
A keynote speech will be delivered by Dr. Chris Dolan from the Refugee Law Project (RLP) in Uganda, and a concluding presentation will be given by Prof. Brandon Hamber, INCORE, Ulster University. The conference will be concluded by the launch of the book 'Boys, Young Men and Violence: Masculinities, Education and Practice' by Dr. Ken Harland and Prof. Sam McGready (Ulster University). Afri Féile Bríde 2016: A Time of Opportunity
This takes place on Saturday 6th February at Solas Bhríde, Kildare Town. Post-Paris it is clear that this people power needs to continue and grow, that it is up to citizens of the world, we the people, to take responsibility and 'be the change we want to see in the world'. This is a time of opportunity and Féile Bríde will explore what can be done - and what is already being done - by ordinary people to save our planet. Féile Bríde is part of a week-long series of events taking place in Kildare organized by the Brigidine Sisters and Cairde Bríde. Organized by Afri in partnership with St. Patrick's Missionary Society Kiltegan and Cairde Bríde.

PBI Orientation Day
Peace Brigades International has an orientation day at the end of January for those who want to find out more and particularly for those thinking about volunteering with a PBI field project. The Orientation Day is an interactive workshop that will give a better insight into PBI's global work and a real feel of what it is to volunteer with the field projects. Topics will include an explanation of what PBI is about, the work of Human Rights Defenders, the Theory of Protection, and Consensus decision-making theory. It takes place on Saturday 30th January from 09:00 - 17:00 at The Lantern Intercultural Centre, Synge Street, central Dublin. The cost of attending is €30.
