The Downpatrick Declaration, an important peace initiative, was launched on 7th December 2021 in….Downpatrick…..by Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire ‘and supporting cast’..
This date was the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Colmcille with the launch being in his burial place, Downpatrick, despite Covid, the wild weather and the worst Storm Barra could throw out. This peace declaration challenges both jurisdictions in Ireland, and the respective governments, over increasing militarisation and involvement in the arms trade.
